The federal government has ceased imposing extra taxes on solar energy users and has called for a comprehensive review of the current net metering policy.
According to official sources, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and several federal ministers voiced opposition against the proposed tax measures aimed at consumers utilizing solar panels for electricity generation. This prompted a directive for the energy minister to reassess the net metering policy and suggest modifications that would not financially burden renewable energy users.
Originally, the policy included plans to purchase electricity from solar users at Rs10 per unit while introducing new tax clauses. This proposal has led to considerable pushback from both consumers and industry stakeholders.
