The National Emergencies Operations Centre (NEOC) issued a critical alert, forecasting five weather systems that would bring thunderstorms, strong winds, hailstorms, and heavy rainfall across Pakistan.

Islamabad and Rawalpindi are facing severe conditions. APP reported a severe weather warning in Pakistan, prompting urgent action from authorities and citizens.

The NEOC predicts intense weather in multiple regions. In Islamabad and Rawalpindi, two merging systems will trigger wind gusts and heavy rain from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), North Punjab, and south-eastern Punjab expect scattered hailstorms and showers.

Southern Punjab’s Rohi region, including Rahim Yar Khan, faces light to moderate rain, while KP’s Peshawar to Parachinar and Azad Jammu and Kashmir’s Muzaffarabad to Neelum Valley brace for storms, per the NEOC weather alert.

NDMA’s Call to Action

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) directed provincial and district authorities to ensure emergency preparedness and coordinate with response units. The NDMA will provide regular updates via the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert app, emphasising proactive measures to mitigate risks from the Pakistan thunderstorms.

The NDMA’s NDMA advisory urges citizens to avoid unnecessary travel, especially in hilly or flood-prone areas, secure structures, trees, power lines, and solar panels, and park vehicles safely. Farmers should protect crops from hail and winds, while tourists are advised to stay vigilant during outdoor activities.

The heavy rainfall in Pakistan poses risks to safety and infrastructure. As the NDMA stresses, timely preparedness is crucial to minimising impacts. The public’s adherence to safety guidelines will be key during this severe weather event.
