Senators in the Pakistan Senate will see salary raises, bringing their pay in line with National Assembly members (MNAs).
The Senate Finance Committee plans to meet next week to consider approving an increase in Senate members’ salaries from Rs150,000 to Rs519,000.
This anticipated adjustment comes from a similar decision by the National Assembly’s Finance Committee, which recently secured a cross-party agreement to raise MNAs’ salaries to Rs519,000 monthly. However, the salaries of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly will not increase.
The increase in MNAs’ salaries, marking the end of a long period without raises, will take effect from January 1, 2025, following NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq’s approval of the finance committee’s resolution.

Simultaneously, the salaries of the Senate’s Chairman and Deputy Chairman are not expected to increase. The Senate Finance Committee initially scheduled its meeting for Friday but postponed it due to Senate Chairman Yusuf Raza Gilani’s foreign trip. Upon his return, Gilani, in coordination with Deputy Prime Minister and Leader of the House Ishaq Dar and Opposition Leader Shibli Faraz, will convene the committee to discuss and likely approve the salary increases.
Should the Senate Finance Committee greenlight the proposed salary adjustments, these changes, like those for the MNAs, would come into effect starting January 1, 2025.
