The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has asserted that mobile internet speed throughout the country has experienced a 28 per cent increase over the preceding year.
The PTA reports that mobile internet speeds have increased from 15.65 Megabits per second (Mbps) to 20.02 Mbps. This increase in speed aligns with a significant 24.2 percent rise in mobile internet usage, highlighting the increasing demand for digital connectivity among the people of Pakistan.
Broadband and Telecom Subscriber Growth
As of September 2024, the number of broadband subscribers has reached a milestone of 142.3 million, with the telecom subscriber base expanding to 196 million. The telecom sector has seen increased users and substantial revenue generation, recording Rs955 billion in the last fiscal year. Additionally, the local production of mobile devices has risen, with 29.6 million units manufactured within the country during the same period.

Despite these advancements, the World Population Review ranks Pakistan 198th in global internet speed, falling behind nations such as Palestine, Bhutan, and Ghana. The average mobile internet download speed in Pakistan is 19.59 Mbps, and the average broadband speed is 15.52 Mbps.
The report further highlights that the United Arab Emirates (UAE) leads the world in mobile and broadband internet speeds, followed by Singapore for mobile internet and Qatar for broadband speeds. Hong Kong and Chile are noted for their high rankings in mobile internet speed, occupying the third and fourth positions, respectively.
