Pakistan is preparing to introduce a Pakistan petrol quota system alongside a nationwide digital fuel management setup at petrol pumps. The plan would assign private vehicle owners a fixed monthly petrol limit and block purchases beyond that quota.
Officials say the move aims to improve transparency and regulate fuel consumption nationwide. It also forms part of wider efforts to digitise Pakistan’s fuel supply chain and strengthen monitoring at fuel stations.
Preparations for the new system are already at an advanced stage. The National Information Technology Board, working with the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, has completed testing for both mobile devices and a dedicated application linked to the project.

The digital monitoring process will run through an app developed by the Pakistan Digital Authority. Authorities plan to use it to track petrol distribution more closely at pumps across the country.
To support the digital system, petrol pumps will receive modern mobile handsets valued at around Rs36,000 each.

Oil marketing companies will arrange funding for these devices. Meanwhile, the IT board will supervise procurement and distribution through the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority to relevant firms and fuel stations. OGRA has already been directed to ask oil companies to proceed with purchasing the devices.
