Pakistan’s petrol price increased by Rs55 after the government announced a sharp hike in petrol and diesel prices, citing rising global oil costs linked to escalating tensions in the Middle East.
Federal ministers announced at a press conference in Islamabad that they will raise petrol and diesel prices by Rs55 per litre to manage higher international petroleum prices.
Pakistan Petrol Price Increased by Rs55: New Petrol and Diesel Rates
Under the revised rates announced at the briefing:
- Petrol: Rs321.17 per litre
- Diesel: Rs335.86 per litre, up from Rs275.70
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said the decision followed a surge in global oil prices amid the widening regional conflict. He told reporters the situation intensified after an attack on Iran and said the conflict had expanded in the past 48 hours, pushing international petroleum prices higher.
Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik described the decision as difficult, saying the government was working to ensure Pakistan’s energy needs were met during a challenging period.
The update comes alongside separate reporting that the International Monetary Fund urged Pakistan to increase petrol and diesel prices immediately during virtual talks with Pakistani authorities, according to sources.
