Pakistan has been fined 25% of their match fee and lost five ICC World Test Championship points for a slow over-rate against South Africa in Cape Town.
Richie Richardson, from the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, enforced the sanctions after finding Pakistan five overs short, considering time allowances.
Under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, players lose 5% of their match fee for each overdue over.
Additionally, ICC World Test Championship rules deduct one point for every missing over, resulting in a five-point reduction for Pakistan.
Captain Shan Masood admitted the offense and accepted the sanction, negating the need for a formal hearing.
Umpires Kumar Dharmasena, Nitin Menon, Alex Wharf, and Stephen Harris charged Pakistan with the slow over-rate.
Recently, South Africa clinched a dominant 10-wicket win over Pakistan, sweeping the two-match Test series at Newlands Stadium, Cape Town. They quickly reached a modest 58-run target, ending the series 2-0.
After South Africa scored 615, Pakistan, responding to their first innings of 194, managed 478 in the second innings following on.
In the first test at Pretoria, South Africa narrowly won by two wickets, even after a tough chase of 148 on a challenging pitch. This victory extends their winning streak to seven consecutive tests.
Despite the series loss, Pakistan showed determination, highlighted by Masood’s 145 in the follow-on. Masood hopes for greater consistency in their upcoming home series against West Indies starting January 17.
