The federal government has set an ambitious target to send 800,000 Pakistanis abroad for employment in 2026, marking a notable increase from the approximately 740,000 workers who secured overseas jobs last year.
The announcement was made by Chaudhry Salik Hussain, Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development, during a meeting with a delegation from the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry.
The minister said global demand for Pakistani workers continues to rise, particularly in Gulf Cooperation Council countries, alongside growing opportunities in other international markets. He noted that Pakistani manpower remains in demand due to its adaptability and strong work ethic.

To better align skills with global requirements, the government is launching soft skills training programmes in collaboration with South Korea and Japan. These initiatives aim to improve language proficiency, workplace culture awareness, and technical compatibility, enhancing the international competitiveness of Pakistani workers.
Announcing a key policy reform, the minister said the minimum age for women seeking overseas employment has been reduced from 35 to 25. He described the move as a major step toward expanding job opportunities for women and increasing their participation in the global workforce.
Chaudhry Salik Hussain also highlighted the economic impact of overseas Pakistanis, saying skilled workers abroad play a vital role in strengthening foreign exchange reserves. He cited Korea as an example, noting that a Pakistani worker there sends an average of $1,800 per month in remittances home.
The minister added that the government is pursuing wide-ranging reforms to address the concerns of overseas Pakistanis, strengthen skills development, and ensure safe, organised, and dignified employment opportunities abroad.
