Pakistan experienced widespread internet slowdowns after a temporary outage at a major upstream provider disrupted connectivity nationwide.
Users in several cities reported reduced speeds and intermittent access, affecting everyday online activities such as video calls, social media browsing, and digital transactions. The issue quickly highlighted how a single upstream fault can ripple through the national network.
Naya Tel confirmed the disruption in a statement shared on its official social media channels. The company said overall internet performance declined after one of its two upstream providers became temporarily inactive, diverting and slowing internet traffic across multiple regions.
Naya Tel said its technical teams are actively monitoring the situation and working closely with the upstream provider to restore normal service levels. The company did not share a specific timeline for resolution but assured customers that engineers are taking all necessary steps to stabilise the network.

Telecom experts noted that upstream providers supply international bandwidth to several local ISPs, making them critical to national connectivity. When one provider faces a fault, services such as online banking, remote work platforms, cloud applications, and streaming can experience noticeable disruption.
Customers were advised to delay non-essential online activities and follow official updates from their service providers. Naya Tel reiterated that its teams remain fully engaged and will share further information as soon as services normalise.
The incident once again underscores Pakistan’s heavy reliance on a limited number of upstream internet providers. Analysts say expanding redundancy and diversifying international connectivity routes will be key to preventing similar nationwide disruptions in the future.
