Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued alarming statistics on the impacts of monsoon rains and floods nationwide. From June 26 to July 17, 2025, heavy downpours resulted in 178 deaths and 491 injuries, with flash flooding being the primary cause.
In the past 24 hours alone, 54 people died and 227 suffered injuries. Punjab recorded the highest fatalities at 103, followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (38), Sindh (20), and Balochistan (16). Urban flooding has disrupted major cities, including Islamabad and Rawalpindi, where authorities declared a public holiday and issued evacuation orders in the vicinity of Nullah Leh. WASA and Rescue 1122 teams are actively conducting drainage and relief operations amid forecasts of continued rainfall.

Flash floods, structural collapses, and rain-related hazards cause significant damage. Since the monsoon season began in late June, the rains have destroyed hundreds of houses and triggered landslides.

MD Saleem Ashraf reported that the Nullah Leh levels were 22 feet at Katarian and 23 feet at Gawalmandi Bridge. Sirens prompted evacuations as PMD warned of more showers.
The district administration announced a one-day public holiday, urging residents to stay indoors. Rescue 1122 operates on high alert, advising evacuation from dilapidated buildings.
Rainfall records include: Saidpur (53mm), Golra (77mm), Bokra (95mm), Shamsabad (67mm), Kachehri (105mm), Pirwadhai and Gawalmandi (90mm), Katarian (80mm).
