On July 7, 2025, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) issued a nationwide alert, warning of heavy to very heavy monsoon rains and predicting flash floods, landslides, and urban flooding across multiple regions.
The PMD forecasts flash flooding in nullahs and streams of Murree, Gilgit-Baltistan, Mansehra, Kohistan, Chitral, Swat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, northeast Punjab, Kashmir, and Balochistan districts, including Barkhan, Kohlu, and Lasbela. Landslides may close roads in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, and Kashmir, while urban flooding threatens low-lying areas in Lahore, Sialkot, and Peshawar. Strong monsoon currents and a westerly wave are expected to drive the rains through July 8, with isolated heavy downpours anticipated.

Over the past 24 hours, significant rainfall has been recorded in several areas, with Karor receiving 37 mm, Kot Addu 31 mm, D.G. Khan 22 mm, and Muzaffarabad 21 mm, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

Southern Sindh, including Karachi, is expected to experience drizzle, with temperatures ranging from 33 to 35°C through July 9. In contrast, Gilgit-Baltistan experienced a high of 47°C in Nokkundi. An alert has been issued that affects 220 million citizens, as Sindh has recorded a rainfall level 784% above average, based on data from 2022.

The NDMA emphasized the importance of emergency preparedness, activating flood control rooms in Punjab and Sindh, according to Dawn. Recent monsoon effects have resulted in 57 deaths in 2024, highlighting the urgency after $40 billion in flood damages in 2022.
