The Ministry of National Health Services has implemented precautionary measures to monitor the ‘Human Metanephrine Virus’ (HMPV) following its recent detection in China.
To date, no cases of HMPV have been reported in Pakistan, yet authorities emphasize the importance of vigilance to avert any potential outbreak.
The ministry has instructed the National Institute of Health (NIH) to monitor the virus closely. A video conference with health officials and medical experts will evaluate the situation and develop a response strategy.
Medical experts indicate that HMPV, which spreads through the respiratory tract, predominantly affects children, causing symptoms like a runny nose, cough, and fever. Despite its presence, there is no concern about its spread in Pakistan.
“Unless there are significant genetic changes in the virus, there is no immediate threat,” medical experts clarified, reinforcing the need for precautionary actions to protect public health.
Furthermore, officials confirmed that neither the World Health Organization (WHO) nor Chinese health authorities have issued an emergency alert for HMPV. Pakistan remains vigilant and prepared to coordinate an effective response to any risks posed by the virus.
