Amidst the escalating crisis in Gaza, Pakistan has initiated immediate humanitarian support to aid the distressed Palestinian population. The Foreign Office spokesperson emphasized the critical need for this assistance due to Israel’s severe aggression and dire conditions in the densely inhabited Gaza Strip. The relief endeavour is a collaboration between Pakistan’s government, the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, various UN bodies, the Egyptian government, and Pakistani missions abroad, ensuring effective aid delivery logistics.
Following the militant group’s forceful border breach that left over 1,400 dead, Israel’s declaration of war on Hamas has met with intense aerial retaliation. The ongoing bombardments have claimed approximately 2,670 lives, predominantly among the civilian populace of the beleaguered Gaza region.
Call for Ceasefire: Pakistan’s Diplomatic Front
Earlier today, Pakistan’s Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar advocated vehemently for an immediate cessation of hostilities and removing the Gaza blockade via a post on X (formerly Twitter). He reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, condemning Israel’s heavy-handed tactics targeting civilians, clearly violating international legal standards.
Prime Minister Kakar contextualized the current upheaval as a culmination of prolonged illegal occupation and suppression of Palestinians. He urged the UN and global powers to facilitate unhindered humanitarian access to Gaza. In line with these efforts, Pakistan, in close liaison with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and member countries, is monitoring Gaza’s precarious state.
Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani’s planned presence at the OIC’s Executive Committee’s Emergency Meeting on Wednesday highlights Pakistan’s active role. The meeting is set to prioritize immediate diplomatic interventions, providing substantial relief to the afflicted Gazan populace.
