Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Iran’s Eskandar Momeni finalised agreements to ease travel for Pakistani pilgrims during Arbaeen and Muharram while strengthening bilateral relations.
The decisions, announced after a meeting in Islamabad, aim to enhance pilgrim facilities and deepen cooperation between the two nations.
Both countries have agreed to keep the Pakistan-Iran border open 24/7 during Arbaeen and Muharram to accommodate pilgrims. Iran will provide lodging and meals for 5,000 Pakistani pilgrims in Mashhad and will arrange special transportation from the border to Iraq.

A hotline will be established to quickly address any concerns raised by the pilgrims, and a trilateral conference with the interior ministries of Pakistan, Iran, and Iraq is planned to take place in Mashhad. Additionally, there will be discussions regarding increased flight operations and potential sea routes for pilgrims.
The ministers discussed ways to collaborate on combating illegal immigration, human smuggling, and drug trafficking and improving coordination for border security. Momeni emphasised that Pakistan’s security is a priority for Iran, describing support for pilgrims as a religious obligation. Naqvi addressed the issue of releasing detained Iranian fishermen, assuring full cooperation
The agreements signal a deepening of Pakistan-Iran ties, fostering regional stability.
