The federal government is set to introduce a new amendment to passport regulations, enabling citizens to apply for travel documents in any city nationwide.
According to sources, the amendment is designed to simplify the passport acquisition process for citizens.
Additionally, under the proposed amendment, passport fees will be payable nationwide at any branch of the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP). The Ministry of Interior has forwarded the amendment summary to the cabinet for approval. Once ratified, these changes will be officially implemented.
This initiative follows recent discussions in the National Assembly, where Minister for Law and Justice Azam Nazeer Tarar addressed significant delays in passport issuance. In response to growing public dissatisfaction, he assured that the issues would be resolved by the end of September by deploying new machinery and software.
The minister expressed confidence that the new system, set to increase daily passport processing capacity from 26,000 to 60,000, would address delays and help manage the application backlog. This development promises substantial improvements in the efficiency of passport services across Pakistan.
