Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police have identified a global terrorist group, backed by two hostile nations’ intelligence, behind the suicide attack on Maulana Hamid-ul-Haq Haqqani.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police (IGP) Zulfiqar Hameed confirmed that a thorough investigation into the February 28, 2025, suicide bombing at the Darul Uloom Haqqania mosque in Akora Khattak traced the attack to an international terrorist organisation, which was supported by intelligence agencies from two neighbouring countries.
The nationality of the suicide bomber was identified as foreign, as he had entered the seminary from outside. His intact head and face facilitated identification. A report on the findings has been submitted to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

A blast occurred after Friday prayers, targeting Maulana Hamid-ul-Haq Haqqani, a leader of JUI-S and vice administrator of Darul Uloom Haqqania. The explosion killed him and seven others, including an Afghan national, and injured 18 people, three of whom were police officers.
The mosque, which serves as a central facility for the seminary, housing 4,000 students, sustained damage. Although no group, including Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) or Daesh, has claimed responsibility for the attack, their involvement is suspected.
