The Ministry of Religious Affairs in Pakistan confirmed on Thursday, May 8, 2025, that intermittent suspensions of airport operations have disrupted 13 Hajj flights, affecting approximately 3,080 pilgrims.
The disruptions, which occurred between May 7 and 9, included four cancelled flights and nine delayed ones. This prompted the ministry to arrange special flights and establish a helpline for affected travellers.
The ministry reported that two Saudi Airlines flights were cancelled, each from Islamabad and Lahore. In comparison, delays impacted three flights from Lahore, two from Islamabad, two from Quetta, and one each from Multan and Karachi. Despite these setbacks, most delayed flights departed after a few hours.

The cancellations left 345 pilgrims stranded, who were later transported to Saudi Arabia on a special Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flight from Islamabad on May 9. An additional 540 pilgrims are scheduled to depart on special flights from Islamabad and Lahore.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs set up a dedicated helpline (051-9216980) for real-time flight updates to address the disruptions. Pilgrims are advised to stay in contact with their respective Haji Camps for the latest travel information. The ministry’s proactive measures, including special PIA flights, aim to minimise inconvenience and ensure pilgrims reach Saudi Arabia for Hajj.
Though not detailed in cause, the temporary airport suspensions have significantly altered travel plans for thousands of pilgrims. The ministry’s swift response, including special flight arrangements, demonstrates a commitment to supporting pilgrims during this critical religious journey. The helpline and Haji Camp communications provide essential support for those affected.
