Pakistan’s fuel reserves for 28 days are available, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb told the Senate Committee for Finance during a briefing on the country’s economic situation.
Speaking at a session chaired by Senator Salim Mandviwala, Aurangzeb said Pakistan has sufficient diesel and petrol stocks for about 4 weeks. He added that authorities are also considering petroleum conservation measures similar to those implemented during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Aurangzeb said the government will ensure optimum use of local oil and gas reserves and stressed that there is no shortage of oil and gas in the country.
He urged citizens to conserve energy, noting that demand management can help extend reserves during periods of uncertainty. The minister said fuel supply will be regulated and conservation steps will be taken as needed.

The finance minister said the prime minister has constituted a special committee to monitor petroleum products daily.
According to Aurangzeb, Pakistan’s petroleum reserves will last until the end of March. He said key decisions would be taken urgently to manage supplies and reduce risk if regional tensions continue.
The comments come as concerns rise over regional security and shipping routes.
Aurangzeb said that if tensions persist, the government would take steps to mitigate potential impacts. The statement referenced remarks by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards about control over the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global oil and gas supplies.
Officials did not announce any new restrictions immediately, but signalled readiness to adjust policy if needed.
