Pakistan’s Ministry of Finance announced that petrol prices will remain unchanged, while high-speed diesel (HSD) will decrease by Rs3 per litre for the next fortnight, effective September 1. Additionally, the prices of Superior Kerosene Oil (SKO) and Light Diesel Oil (LDO) will drop by Rs 1.46 and Rs 2.40 per litre, respectively.
The Ministry of Finance announced the following fuel prices effective September 1, 2025: high-speed diesel at Rs 269.99 per litre, kerosene at Rs 176.81 per litre, and light diesel at Rs 159.76 per litre. Petrol remains unchanged at Rs 264.61 per litre, according to the latest notification. These adjustments follow previous price reductions on August 16, when authorities lowered diesel prices by Rs 12.84 per litre.
Prices of petrol, diesel reduced
Petrol powers small vehicles, rickshaws, and motorcycles, providing relief to middle- and lower-income households that rely on daily commuting. On the other hand, high-speed diesel fuel is used in trucks, buses, trains, and agricultural machinery, such as tractors. A reduction of Rs3 in diesel prices could help alleviate inflationary pressures, as diesel has a significant impact on transportation and farming costs. The transport sector in Pakistan consumes 60% of the diesel used in the country.
