Media reports suggest that Pakistan’s power tariff may rise by Rs3.41 per unit due to the monthly fuel adjustment (MFA).
The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is scheduled to review an application from the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) for this increase.
The CPPA attributes the proposed hike to a rise in the monthly fuel costs for May.
Last month, 12.26 billion units of electricity were produced for Rs9.12 per unit. Should NEPRA approve the request, this would impose additional costs on consumers already facing high electricity prices.
This potential hike follows several recent increases.
The base electricity rate also increased from Rs7.91 to Rs7.50 per unit at the start of the financial year.
If sanctioned, the new increase in electricity tariffs will take effect from July 1.
