Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that Pakistan received over $10 billion in pledges at the International Conference on Climate Resilient Infrastructure in Geneva.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif launched an $8 billion flood aid appeal to help Pakistan recover from the devastation. Pakistan needs international aid after deadly floods killed 1,700 and caused $16 billion in damages, half of which Islamabad is financing.
Bilawal Tweeted on Tuesday, “Today, the international community answered the prayers of 33 million flood victims in Pakistan. We exceeded all expectations and managed to raise more than $9Billion in funding for a resilient Pakistan reconstruction plan,”
He thanked Antonio Guterres “for being our champion.” The foreign minister retweeted tweets from the foreign affairs ministry that broke donor commitments.
The $350 billion economy secured $8.57 billion in first-session commitments and over $2 billion in the second.

In response to Pakistan’s $8 billion flood appeal, the World Bank and Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) pledged over $6 billion for climate rebuilding.
The IsDB has pledged $4.2 billion to Pakistan over the next three years, and the World Bank $2 billion. Saudi Arabia, China, the U.S., and other nations have also announced support.
