Pakistan has successfully phased out 10% of total Hydro Chlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) consumption to ensure compliance of Montreal Protocol (MP) for protection of Ozone Layer.
It is a matter of great satisfaction that Pakistan is in full compliance with regard to implementation as phase out of 2nd Generation of Ozone Depleting Substances (ODSs) i.e. HCFC is also successfully in progress.
Climate Change Division sources while highlighting the present status/progress made by Pakistan in connection with compliance to Montreal Protocol (MP) on Monday said to implement effective HCFC import system and to curb illegal HCFC import issue, 60 Custom Officers were trained. The authorities restricted import of the HCFCs by implementing HCFC import quota system in collaboration with Ministry of Commerce and FBR. Five ODSs based foam industries were converted while United Refrigeration Industries introduced Ozone Friendly Technology.
All Pakistan Essay and Speech Competition on issue of Ozone Layer Protection was organized among schools and colleges to raise awareness regarding ozone protection at grassroots level while 175 refrigeration servicing technicians were trained to adopt good practices. They said an International Ozone Day at national level was celebrated to join hand with international community.
The targets are to evolve a strategy to meet 35% reduction targets of HCFCs by January 1, 2020 and web-based implementation of HCFC quota system.
