The fallout from Pakistan’s dismal ICC Champions Trophy 2025 showing flared up on March 7, as ex-Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar claimed an Indian B team could trounce Mohammad Rizwan’s squad.
Former Pakistan coach Jason Gillespie hit back hard, dubbing it “absolute nonsense” and igniting the Pakistan Cricket Debate. With zero wins as hosts, Pakistan’s woes draw sharp takes from cricket’s big names.
Gavaskar vs. Gillespie Showdown
Gavaskar, on Sports Today, didn’t hold back: “Pakistan’s current form? An Indian B team would be tough to beat.” Gillespie, Pakistan’s Test coach in 2024-25, fired off a rebuttal: “That’s rubbish. With the right players and patience, Pakistan can take on anyone.” He stressed talent over rhetoric, slamming the idea that India’s reserves could dominate. The Pakistan Cricket Debate pits optimism against critique after a trophyless run.

Latif Slams PCB System
Ex-captain Rashid Latif waded in, saying Gillespie’s frustration—once calling Pakistan’s setup “a joke” targeted the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), not Aaqib Javed. “Foreign coaches don’t bend,” Latif noted, citing Mickey Arthur’s strict stint that lifted Pakistan to T20I’s top spot. “Our players outshine the game now—PCB needs balance.” On Babar Azam’s social media spat, he added, “Legal notices, not dad’s posts, are the fix.” Will the Pakistan Cricket Debate spark change?
