“Even poorer than Oman, USA,” fumed Wasim Akram as he unleashed a scathing attack on the Pakistan cricket team after Pakistan’s embarrassing defeat to India in the ICC Champions Trophy on February 23, 2025.
Pakistan’s loss in Dubai from India has left their semi-final hopes shattered and reignited scrutiny of the squad.
On Dressing Room, Akram slammed Pakistan’s “archaic cricket” in a fast-paced white-ball era. “Enough is enough,” he declared. “Drastic steps are needed—bring fearless young blood, even if it means five or six changes.” He urged a rebuild for the 2026 T20 World Cup, accepting short-term setbacks.

Akram threw the bowlers under the bus, citing, “In the last five ODIs, they’ve taken 24 wickets at an average of 60—worse than Oman and the USA. Among 14 ODI teams, we’re second-worst.” He accused the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), selectors, and coach of assembling a flawed squad despite promises of a “surprise” against India.

Captain Mohammad Rizwan didn’t escape blame. “He’s the leader and should know what match-winners we need,” Akram said. Fans echoed his frustration, abandoning the stadium after 15 overs of Pakistan’s bowling. “It’s getting embarrassing now,” he added.
