Pakistan is increasinly alarmed over the downturn  in Saudi Arabia and Iran relations, saying that the prevailing situation was dangerous for the entire Muslim Ummah.

In a policy statement in the National Assembly in Islamabad earlier today, Advisor to PM on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz said, “Pakistan is ready to play its role to defuse tensions between Saudi Arabia and Iran.”

Aziz said, tension between Saudi Arabia and Iran is very sensitive issue and terrorist elements could benefit from this situation. He said Pakistan will continue to play its positive role as an important member of OIC.

Sartaj Aziz expressed hope that both countries would be able to restore relations through dialogue soon, adding that it is the responsibility of both the states to provide safety to the diplomatic missions.

He assured the House that the opinion of members of the House will also be taken in this regard.
