On August 20, 2025, Pakistan, China, and Afghanistan reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing counterterrorism efforts and deepening cooperation in trade, transit, and other sectors during the Sixth Trilateral Foreign Ministers’ Dialogue in Kabul.
The meeting, attended by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, China’s Foreign Minister, and Afghanistan’s Acting Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, focused on political, economic, and security collaboration.
The Foreign Office stated that the three nations pledged to strengthen joint efforts against terrorism and expand collaboration in trade, transit, regional development, health, education, culture, and drug trafficking. A significant commitment includes extending the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) to Afghanistan, fostering regional connectivity. The ministers emphasised a unified approach to ensure stability and prosperity in the region.

On the sidelines, Dar and Muttaqi reviewed growing Pakistan-Afghanistan relations, welcoming the decision to elevate diplomatic representation to ambassadorial level, agreed upon in Beijing on May 21, 2025. They noted progress in trade and transit from recent high-level visits, including Dar’s trips to Kabul on April 19 and July 17. Many agreements from these meetings are either implemented or nearing completion.

Dar raised concerns about a recent surge in terrorist attacks in Pakistan, particularly by the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA)/Majeed Brigade, operating from Afghan soil. He urged Afghan authorities to take concrete measures to prevent their territory from being used for terrorism. Muttaqi reaffirmed Afghanistan’s commitment to ensuring no terrorist groups target Pakistan or other nations.
