Pakistan announced a complete ban on all New Year events in a gesture of solidarity with Palestinians.
In a televised address, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar expressed the need for the public to demonstrate unity with the people of Gaza by adopting a simpler approach to New Year celebrations. This decision comes in response to the distressing situation in Palestine.
Prime Minister Kakar detailed the profound sorrow felt across Pakistan and the broader Muslim community due to the ongoing crisis in Palestine. He highlighted the tragic loss of over 21,000 Palestinians, including approximately 9,000 children, since October 7, 2023, attributing these casualties to the actions of Israeli forces.
Emphasizing Pakistan’s commitment to the Palestinian cause, he mentioned the country’s efforts in raising awareness of this issue on international platforms.
Pakistan’s Assistance to Palestine
Underlining Pakistan’s practical steps, PM Kakar spoke of sending relief consignments to Palestine, with a third batch planned for dispatch soon. He also noted Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement with Egypt and Jordan to facilitate the aid and treatment of those injured in Gaza.
The Prime Minister hoped the new year would usher in an era of peace, prosperity, and harmony for Pakistan and the world, underscoring the nation’s desire to resolve global conflicts.
