The Pakistani military reported that two of its soldiers lost their lives in a firefight with terrorists in the North Waziristan district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) of Pakistan stated that Pakistani forces engaged and confronted the terrorists, resulting in two fatalities and two injuries on the opposing side. Additionally, weapons and ammunition were seized from the slain terrorists.
However, during the heated battle, two soldiers, 38-year-old Naik Zaheer Abbas of Khushab district and 23-year-old Lance Naik Mairaj Ud Din of Dera Ismail Khan district succumbed to their injuries, their deaths being described as ’embracing martyrdom’ by the military.
According to ISPR, a comprehensive search operation is underway to neutralize any remaining terrorists in the area. The statement also reaffirmed the Pakistani armed forces’ commitment to combating terrorism, stressing that the sacrifices of these brave soldiers only bolster their determination.
Over the years, the army has initiated and successfully executed multiple operations against various terrorist factions nationwide. These endeavors have been instrumental in disrupting terrorist networks and mitigating threats posed to civilians and security forces.
During his first press conference as the ISPR’s Director General on April 25, Maj-Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry disclosed that 8,269 intelligence-based operations (IBOs) had been carried out since the beginning of the year. These operations led to the death or capture of 1,535 terrorists. He broke down the operation figures by region: 4,040 in Balochistan, 3,591 in K-P, 119 in Punjab, and 519 in Sindh. Maj-Gen Chaudhry revealed that, on average, over 70 IBOs have been carried out daily by the army, police, and law enforcement agencies since the start of the year.
