The Pakistan Army, led by Chief of Army Staff General Syed Asim Munir, pledged a “sure and decisive” response to any Indian aggression following the Pahalgam attack, which killed 26 tourists.
During a Special Corps Commanders’ Conference at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi, amid escalating tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbours, the Chief of Army Staff reiterated Pakistan’s Army’s commitment to defend against any aggression from India.
The April 22, 2025, attack in Pahalgam, Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), heightened Pakistan-India tensions. India accused Pakistan of involvement without evidence, imposing measures like suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, revoking Pakistani visas, and closing the Wagah-Attari border. Pakistan retaliated by expelling Indian diplomats, cancelling visas (except for Sikh pilgrims), and closing its border crossing. Denying involvement, Pakistan offered to join a transparent investigation.

The Pakistan Army’s conference reviewed the geo-strategic environment, condemning India’s actions as attempts to destabilise Pakistan’s western front and economic revival. The military reaffirmed its commitment to defending Pakistan’s sovereignty against any aggression.
Concerns Over Indian Tactics
The Army expressed alarm over India’s alleged exploitation of crises, citing the 2019 Pulwama incident when India revoked Article 370 in IIOJK. The forum suggested that the Pahalgam attack mirrors this pattern, diverting attention from India’s internal issues. General Munir praised the armed forces’ readiness and urged vigilance to counter such tactics.
The forum also criticised India’s moves to undermine the Indus Waters Treaty, calling it a dangerous attempt to weaponise water, threatening 240 million Pakistanis. Additionally, it highlighted evidence of Indian military and intelligence involvement in terrorism inside Pakistan, labelling these actions as violations of international norms.
