On Friday, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir pledged the Pakistan Army’s support for the “capacity building” of the Royal Saudi Land Forces, according to the military’s media wing.
The commitment was made during a meeting with Saudi Arabia’s Assistant Minister of Defence, Major General (Engineer) Talal Bin Abdullah Al-Otaibi, at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported that the discussion covered mutual interests and strategies to enhance bilateral defence cooperation, including defence production and military training.
ISPR noted that the visiting Saudi official praised the Pakistan Army’s role in combating terrorism and contributing to regional peace and stability.
Major General Al-Otaibi and the Pakistan Army’s chief of general staff co-chaired the fifth Pakistan-Saudi Arabia Defence Collaboration meeting at GHQ. The forum addressed global and regional security challenges and their impact on defence forces, emphasizing the need for defence-industrial cooperation due to rapid technological advancements.
Both nations reaffirmed their commitment to deepening defence ties, focusing on specific land, air, and sea capabilities. The ISPR highlighted that the forum considered concrete proposals to achieve clear objectives within set timelines.
This visit by the Saudi major general followed closely after the two-day visit to Islamabad by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah.
