Pakistan and the United States signed two new agreements (MoUs) at the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad. These agreements focus on developing important minerals and building better logistics. This marks a new step in the partnership between the two countries.
Representatives from US Strategic Metals (USSM) and Pakistan’s Frontier Works Organisation (FWO) attended the ceremony. Key leaders, including Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, were also present.
The two MoUs aim to help both countries work together in finding, producing, and processing minerals like copper, gold, and rare earths. USSM, a company from Missouri, specialises in making and recycling minerals such as cobalt, nickel, and copper. They will join FWO to find and develop mineral sites across Pakistan. The agreements also include logistics to support new infrastructure and boost economic growth.

US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie Baker said these agreements show a stronger relationship between Pakistan and the United States. She pointed out that minerals like these are important for clean energy, defence, and manufacturing. This supports America’s focus on safety and growth.
From September 7 to 9, 2025, a US delegation, led by Acting Deputy Chief of Mission Zachary Harkenrider, met with Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Field Marshal, Petroleum Minister, and Commerce Minister. They learned about Pakistan’s large mineral reserves. Moreover, they explored ways to invest in new mineral and infrastructure projects.

The new MoUs build on a recent trade deal, which allows Pakistan a low tariff rate of 19%, the lowest in South Asia. This will help Pakistan export more goods and grow its economy. Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani told parliament that this trade deal will help Pakistan’s economy. It will also support the new mineral projects.
These agreements are a significant milestone for Pakistan-US business ties. They promise to help both countries by creating jobs, advancing technology, and supporting cleaner energy and defence needs. By using Pakistan’s mineral resources, both countries can grow stronger together. This opens the door for more projects and deeper cooperation in the future.
