The foreign ministers of Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates asked the Afghan Taliban to “guarantee women’s rights and recognize the importance of women and girls’ full and equal participation in all aspects of life.”

The UAE’s Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari discussed the Taliban’s decision to stop girls and women from attending university there.

Both leaders pointed out that Islam has given women a special place and protected their rights.

In a statement, the Foreign Office said, “They agreed that it was important to protect women’s rights and that women and girls should be able to take part in all parts of life on an equal basis.”
