The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) announced the capture of a “high-value target,” Gulzar Imam, also known as Shambay.
Gulzar Imam is identified as the founder of the banned militant group Baloch National Army (BNA) and is believed to have connections with foreign intelligence agencies working against Pakistan.
According to the ISPR statement, Imam was seized in an intricate and well-executed operation spanning multiple months and locations. However, the precise location of his capture has not been disclosed.
The arrest news comes on the same day as a high-profile National Security Committee meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The country has recently experienced a worsening security situation, with terrorist groups staging attacks with growing frequency.
The military’s media wing stated that Imam is a hardcore militant and leader of the BNA, which was established after the merger of the Baloch Republican Army (BRA) and the United Baloch Army (UBA). The BNA is responsible for numerous violent terrorist attacks, including strikes against law enforcement agencies in Panjgur and Noshki.
The statement added that Imam was crucial in forming the Baloch Raji Aajoi Sangar (BRAS) and served as its operational chief. His travels to Afghanistan and India are documented, and his connections with hostile intelligence agencies are being investigated.
Gulzar Imam’s arrest is a severe setback for the BNA and other militant groups aiming to destabilize Balochistan’s fragile peace. However, capturing such a high-ranking militant leader showcases law enforcement agencies’ commitment and capability to eradicate terrorism.
