Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Chief Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu has stated the international community witnessed a “stunned” reaction to Pakistan’s military operation against India in May.
The air chief, during a graduation ceremony at the PAF Academy in Risalpur on Tuesday, described the operation as a historic, full-spectrum engagement.
“…the world was stunned to witness the superb execution of Pakistan Air Force operation. It was excellently choreographed and flawlessly executed,” he told the audience. The air chief framed the conflict within a challenging regional environment. He asserted that adversaries consistently undermine Pakistan’s sovereignty.

“On the fateful night of May 6 and 7, when Pakistan’s sovereignty was challenged by the aggressor, the PAF upheld its legacy of fighting outnumbered,” Sidhu stated. He claimed the PAF shot down what he described as the enemy’s most modern and capable aircraft. The listed aircraft included multiple Rafales, Su-30MKIs, Mirage 2000s, MiG-29s, and unmanned aerial systems.
Sidhu characterised this engagement as “one of the most intense and longest battles in modern aerial history.” He said it left the adversary’s skies silent for the remainder of the conflict.
The PAF chief also described a subsequent response on May 10, conducted alongside the Pakistan Army. He claimed this action struck enemy bases and ground assets deep inside their territory. Additionally, it neutralised advanced S-400 air defence systems.
He concluded by emphasising strategic restraint. “Without any doubt, the PAF could have gone further, but we inherit a mature strategic culture. Our actions… were driven by a single aim: to ensure peace with honour.”
The military showdown in May marked one of the worst clashes between the two nations in decades. It followed a terrorist attack on tourists in the Pahalgam area of Indian-administered Kashmir, which India alleged had Pakistani backing.
