Over 50,000 Pakistani citizens are residing illegally in Iraq, according to a report. The Pakistani Embassy in Iraq has officially communicated with the Federal Investigation Agency to initiate action against these individuals.
The embassy has also identified several agents responsible for sending pilgrims to Iraq on two passports, contributing to illegal stays. These individuals have reportedly engaged in various criminal activities using forged passports.
Typically, upon arrival in Iraq, many of these pilgrims discard one of their two passports. Agents based in Rawalpindi have been implicated in these schemes, charging each person between 500,000 to 600,000 Pakistani Rupees for supposed employment opportunities. These agents maintain control over the pilgrims’ passports, which are only returned once all group members have returned.
The embassy’s correspondence emphasized that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is preparing to present this issue of fake passports and fraudulent agents to the appropriate authorities for further action.
