The Karachi Furniture Market, located near Kamran Chowrangi in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, suffered extensive damage from the blaze. Fire Officer Zafar reported that six fire engines quickly tackled the fire, which destroyed over thirty shops.
The fire produced towering flames and thick smoke visible from several kilometres away. Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the blaze, but fortunately, they have not reported any fatalities. After the fire outbreak, authorities received prompt notifications and immediately dispatched six fire brigade vehicles.
This incident follows a fire in a multi-story building on MA Jinnah Road on December 19, the second such event in that building within two weeks.
Sources from the fire brigade noted that the December 19 fire started in a first-floor flat of Rimpa Plaza, which also contains various business offices. Using snorkels and several vehicles, firefighting teams managed to control the fire, and no casualties were reported.
On December 3, Rimpa Plaza suffered a fire that started in a first-floor apartment and spread to the upper levels. Fortunately, all residents were evacuated safely during the incident.
Moreover, a fire had damaged the seventh floor of the same building in May of the previous year, believed to have started in a spare parts warehouse.
After the fire on December 3, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah urged the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) and other relevant agencies to inspect high-rise buildings to avoid future occurrences.
