As Ashura processions take place in Karachi, Jinnah Hospital’s camp at Numaish has recorded over 200 cases of heatstroke.
Dr. Shahid Rasul, the Executive Director of Jinnah Hospital, confirmed that all individuals affected have received initial medical care, and the hospital is actively managing the treatment of heatstroke victims.
Karachi is currently grappling with intense heat, as temperatures have risen to 40°C, with a “feels like” temperature of 52°C. The Meteorological Department reports a humidity level of 53%, intensifying the heat sensation.
Despite the severe heat, a forecast suggests a potential high of 41°C today, with possible scattered rain by evening or night. Current northwesterly winds at 13 km/h and a suspended sea breeze exacerbate the heatwave. Authorities are advising residents to take necessary precautions against the harsh conditions.
