Reports confirmed the detention of approximately 1,257 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers, including members of national and provincial assemblies, in the Multan division amid escalating political tensions.
Authorities have confirmed the detention of over 200 PTI workers as they marched towards Islamabad in response to a call to action by PTI founder Imran Khan. Notable figures among the detainees include Zain Qureshi, Amir Doggar, Nadeem Qureshi, Waseem Badozai, Moinuddin Qureshi, and Rana Tufail Noon. These arrests occurred near Qadirpur Raan as the party members and leaders started their journey from a local hotel towards the capital.
The march to Islamabad, intended as a significant protest by the PTI, saw its leaders spearheading a convoy when the police apprehended them. This action forms part of a broader crackdown involving overnight raids targeting PTI workers, reflecting the heightened security measures and political sensitivity surrounding the event.
Amid these developments, the authorities have taken stringent measures by completely sealing off the entry and exit points to the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. They aim to prevent the escalation of the protest called by Imran Khan, which is expected to draw significant participation across the country.
These measures and the scale of detentions underline the intense political atmosphere and the government’s resolve to maintain order during this period of heightened political activity.
