Outgoing Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa praised the players’ “fighting spirit” for uplifting the nation.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) arranged a reception. President Dr. Arif Alvi also attended the reception.
The outgoing Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and President, Dr. Arif Alvi, met with the T20 World Cup squad at a local hotel. The president said that the team “played up to its reputation for unpredictability.
“They have brought honor to the nation by defeating the best teams en route to the World Cup final,” remarked President Alvi.
While the COAS loved Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan opening the batting, he considered Shadab Khan, the finest batsman.
“I believe there is no greater Twenty20 cricketer than Shadab Khan, who possesses all necessary skills.”
The COAS praised the squad, noting that they had “made the nation proud by leaving the multi-billion dollar teams in the dust by reaching the final”
He stated that the team’s bowlers made the games fascinating to watch. “The bowlers gave their all against a low target, which was thrilling to observe.”
He stated that the demonstration of a battling spirit was more significant than “winning or losing,” calling it the “most crucial” factor.
“After losing, one must have the fortitude to accept defeat. One who does not learn from his errors cannot be considered a true leader, “he stated.
The COAS, a sports enthusiast who participated in the Patron’s Trophy during his prime, revealed to The News that he was a wicketkeeper-batsman.
“Yes, I recall striking a century against PACO in the Patron’s Trophy Grade-II while playing wicketkeeper-batsman.”
Earlier, PCB chairman Ramiz Raja lauded his team’s accomplishments over the past few months, which included reaching the Asia Cup and World Cup finals and winning the tri-nation tournament in New Zealand.
