Oprah Winfrey and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson are again making headlines, but this time for a noble cause. Recognizing the desperate need for relief after the tragic Maui wildfires, they have initiated the People’s Fund of Maui to aid those whose lives were upturned by the calamity.

Setting the tone with an initial generous donation of $10 million, both Oprah and Dwayne are on a mission to help the displaced residents of the affected areas in Lahaina and Kula. Any adult resident aged 18 or above who was uprooted due to the wildfires is entitled to a monthly support of $1,200. The financial boost aims to alleviate some of these families’ burdens as they strive to rebuild their lives.

In designing this initiative, Oprah and Dwayne did not act alone. They sought advice from community pillars, elders, and other influential figures, including the renowned actor Jason Momoa. This collaborative approach ensured the initiative was well-informed and tailored to the community’s real needs.

Oprah’s heartfelt statement provided insight into her conversations with the affected community members: “Over the past weeks, I’ve engaged with the wildfire victims, seeking to understand their most pressing needs. A common concern resonated – the overwhelming financial burden of recovery. Witnessing the community’s unity and spirit, I am driven to assist them in envisioning and shaping their future.”

We're honored to announce the People’s Fund of Maui, a fund putting money directly in the pockets of those who were affected by the recent wildfires.

Dwayne Johnson’s Reflections

Dwayne Johnson, often recognized for his Polynesian heritage, also expressed his sentiments. “While the world observed the massive destruction caused by the Maui fires, they simultaneously witnessed Maui’s incredible spirit, anchored in our Polynesian roots. Our Maui community’s inherent strength and unity, especially in adversity, is awe-inspiring. We not only recover, but we also grow stronger together.”

For those feeling moved by this initiative and wanting to lend a hand, contributions can be made via PeoplesFundofMaui.org. Ensuring transparency and direct aid, all net proceeds are channelled to the affected individuals in Maui. Witnessing celebrities harnessing their resources and platforms for genuine change is commendable. This endeavour by Oprah and Dwayne Johnson is a testament to humanity’s ability to rally together during trying times. The hope is that this fund will be a catalyst in helping Maui residents find stability once more.
