Opposition parties have launched an opposition sit-in outside Parliament House in Islamabad, escalating political tensions in the capital. The announcement came from Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly and chief of the Tehreek Tahaffuz Ayeen-e-Pakistan (TTAP).
According to Achakzai, the protest will remain peaceful. However, he said it will continue until the alliance’s demands are met. Central among those demands is access to the jailed founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and assurances about his medical treatment.
The decision followed consultations among opposition leaders in Islamabad. Senior figures, including PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan, Asad Qaiser, and Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen chief Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, stood alongside Achakzai during the announcement.

Why the Opposition Sit-In Outside Parliament House Began
The opposition sit-in outside Parliament House centres on concerns about Imran Khan’s health and jail conditions. Opposition leaders say a recent report submitted to the Supreme Court revealed serious vision loss in his right eye.
The report was filed after PTI counsel Salman Safdar met the former prime minister under court direction. The Supreme Court had appointed Safdar as amicus curiae during proceedings related to Khan’s living conditions in Adiala Jail.
According to details shared publicly, Imran experienced prolonged blurred vision. The report states that a specialist later diagnosed a blood clot that caused significant damage. His legal team described him as deeply distressed over the impairment.
Opposition leaders argue that jail authorities failed to respond promptly to repeated complaints. They allege that only eye drops were administered for months without meaningful improvement.

Achakzai confirmed that the alliance will formally present its demands at the sit-in. He stated that the protest would continue indefinitely until those demands are accepted.
He also warned that the government would be held responsible for any mismanagement or escalation. “If anything bad happens, the government will be responsible,” he said during the late-night media interaction.
Allama Raja Nasir Abbas strongly criticised the authorities. He described the situation as “criminal negligence” and stressed that prisoners retain basic rights under the law. He added that denying meetings between Imran Khan and his family was unacceptable.
Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar also raised concerns over the reported loss of vision. He urged authorities to facilitate family meetings and ensure proper medical care.

Imran Khan’s Family and Party Reactions
Separately, Imran Khan’s sister Aleema Khan addressed the media in Islamabad. She expressed alarm over the medical report and questioned the response of jail authorities. According to her, complaints about eye problems had been raised for months.
Aleema rejected reports suggesting a possible transfer to Bani Gala. She called such claims “false” and reiterated that her brother would not compromise under pressure.
PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja alleged that a criminal offence had been committed. He demanded treatment by doctors trusted by Khan and his family. He also called for swift hearings in pending cases, including the Toshakhana matter.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi criticised prison authorities for allegedly ignoring repeated complaints. He claimed that medical decisions were made without consulting Khan’s personal physician.

The sit-in marks another phase of confrontation between the opposition alliance and the federal government. Members of the National Assembly, Senate, and provincial assemblies have reportedly been directed to attend.
Security arrangements in Islamabad are expected to remain tight as the protest continues. While leaders have pledged a peaceful demonstration, political observers note that prolonged sit-ins often increase pressure on state institutions.
As events unfold, the focus remains on the health concerns raised and the opposition’s demand for transparency and access.
