Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah termed the Punjab Assembly’s confidence vote “illegal.”
After the opposition boycotted the session, the interior minister told the media outside the Punjab Assembly that PTI lawyers argued before the court that the governor’s order was unconstitutional.
“How was the confidence vote under Article 130(7) today? Punjab Assembly’s speaker Sibtain Khan said the vote of confidence would not be held today. This is because the agenda changed at midnight, and a vote of confidence was deceived”. he questioned
He said the vote of confidence didn’t meet Punjab Governor Baligh-Ur-order Rehman’s that CM Elahi takes the trust vote.
The interior minister asked how to start the confidence vote if the governor’s order is suspended and sub-judice.
He said the PTI and PML-Q still don’t have enough votes for the confidence vote after 10–12 hours. He stressed that this is why they failed to meet eligibility requirements.
The minister said the PML-N will show the court the PTI’s travel history to prove that the absent members voted.
Atta Tarar, PML-N leader, said the party would show the court that the PTI didn’t have enough votes to win the trust vote.
The opposition boycotted Wednesday night’s confidence vote, which CM Elahi won.
The confidence vote followed the Lahore High Court’s ruling that the governor could request the chief minister’s trust during a session.
The court also required 186 lawmakers to support the chief minister in the trust vote.
A resolution by Mian Aslam Iqbal and Raja Basharat supported Elahi as chief minister with 186 MPAs.
