At the 96th Academy Awards in Los Angeles’ Dolby Theatre, “Oppenheimer,” directed by Christopher Nolan, triumphed, winning seven Oscars, including Best Picture. This biopic on J. Robert Oppenheimer, the physicist dubbed the father of the atomic bomb, garnered awards for Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Film Editing, Best Cinematography, Best Score, and Best Director.
“Oppenheimer” overshadowed the competition, including “Poor Things,” which earned four Oscars for Best Actress, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Production Design, and Best Costume Design.
Host Jimmy Kimmel entertained with humour and references to previous Oscar gaffes. A highlight was John Cena’s homage to the Oscars’ 50th anniversary of a streaker incident, presenting Best Costume with minimal attire.
The ceremony began with Da’Vine Joy Randolph winning Best Supporting Actress for “The Holdovers.” Robert Downey Jr. and Cillian Murphy were recognized as Best Supporting Actor and Best Actor, respectively, for their roles in “Oppenheimer.” Emma Stone won Best Actress for “Poor Things.”
Additionally, “Barbie” won Best Original Song for “What Was I Made For?” by Billie Eilish and Finneas O’Connell, despite Greta Gerwig’s absence in the directing category.
