OpenAI is poised to launch GPT-5, its latest artificial intelligence model, possibly in the year’s middle, following a report. This iteration is the follow-up to the GPT-4 model introduced in March 2023, which underpins the widely used ChatGPT chatbot.
The forthcoming GPT-5 model is anticipated to introduce innovative features, including AI agents capable of autonomous operation. Additionally, OpenAI’s CTO, Mira Murati, disclosed plans for the debut of Sora, the company’s inaugural text-to-video AI model, within the same timeframe.
Insights from Business Insider suggest a release timeframe for GPT-5 around June or July. Early previews to select enterprise clients indicate significant advancements over GPT-4, with the new model being described as exceptionally proficient and substantially improving. These AI agents, akin to trainable mini chatbots known as GPTs introduced in November 2023, are expected to undertake tasks independently, marking an evolution in AI capabilities. Details on the functioning of these AI agents remain sparse.
The exact release date for GPT-5 remains uncertain, with ongoing model training indicating potential delays. In conversation with Lex Fridman, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman expressed uncertainty about the launch timeline but emphasized the substantial leap from GPT-4 to GPT-5, mirroring the progression from GPT-3 to GPT-4.
Murati recently highlighted another project, Sora, which can generate one-minute videos from textual prompts. Sora is anticipated to become available to the public shortly, and its pricing is expected to align with DALL-E’s.
