OpenAI and Anthropic have announced temporary holiday season benefits for users of their artificial intelligence coding tools, offering increased usage limits to help developers manage heavier workloads at year’s end.
OpenAI has reset and raised rate limits for its AI coding agent Codex, allowing eligible users to access up to twice their normal usage. The expanded limits will remain in effect until January 1, 2026. OpenAI staff confirmed the update in a post on X, describing the move as a seasonal gesture of appreciation for Codex users.
Codex is designed to support end-to-end software development. It can generate, modify, and debug code using text prompts or visual inputs. Developers can access Codex via command-line tools, ChatGPT, or integrated development environments such as Visual Studio Code and Cursor.
For Codex users, to thank you all for the fun we've had over the last months, our first gift is that we have **reset rate limits and are lifting the usage limits to 2X the usual limits until the 1st of Jan**. Wish you all a merry holiday and lots of coding!!

Anthropic has rolled out a similar promotion for its AI assistant Claude. From December 25 through December 31, Pro and Max subscribers will receive double their usual usage limits across web, desktop, and mobile platforms. The company confirmed that the benefit applies to both existing subscribers and new users who upgrade during the promotional window.
Anthropic clarified that the holiday increase is limited to individual Pro and Max plans. Team and Enterprise subscriptions are excluded, and standard usage caps will resume automatically when the promotion ends.
These seasonal adjustments reflect a broader trend among AI platforms to fine-tune usage caps and metering systems. As developers and professionals push tools harder during peak periods, temporary limit increases offer greater flexibility without long-term changes to subscription tiers.
