Olivia Dunne witnessed the Double-A debut of Pittsburgh Pirates’ pitching sensation, Paul Skenes, last Saturday. The much-hyped first-overall draft pick had a shaky start, succumbing to four runs, three hits, and a pair of walks within the initial inning.
Hailing from Fullerton, California, 21-year-old Skenes stands tall at 6-foot-4 and is often likened to acclaimed pitchers like Stephen Strasburg. His dominant pitch reaches a staggering speed of 100 mph, coupled with a rich array of alternatives, one of which is a distinguished slider.
Skenes’ Evolution and Relationship Spotlight
Before advancing to Double-A the previous Monday, Skenes showcased his prowess in the Florida Complex League, pitching an immaculate inning.
Sports Illustrated said he continued his streak with three more in the Florida State League. Despite his commendable 12 outs promoting him to the Altoona Curve, Skenes faced a tough challenge, securing only two strikeouts against the Akron RubberDucks before being substituted.
Reflecting on his college baseball journey, during his tenure with the LSU Tigers – after his transfer from the Air Force Academy – Skenes exhibited a monumental season. He boasted a record of 12-2, with a commendable 1.69 ERA and an impressive 209 batters struck out in 102.2 innings.
While Skenes undeniably possesses tremendous potential, adapting to the game’s challenges becomes pivotal, especially given his relationship with Dunne, which keeps the spotlight firmly on him. Amid swirling rumours, Skenes put speculations to rest by confirming their romantic involvement.
