The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has announced the discovery of gas condensate from a well in the Khairpur district of Sindh. The company said this will contribute to reducing the gap between energy supply and demand through indigenous resources. The discovery, announced on October 1, 2025, marks a significant step in addressing Pakistan’s energy crisis.
OGDCL spudded the well on June 30, 2025, and drilled down to a depth of 3,800 meters in the Sembar Formation. OGDCL’s in-house experts collaborated with their Joint Venture Partner to carry out the work. Based on wireline log interpretations, they conducted two Drill Stem Tests (DSTs) in the Lower Goru Formation, targeting the Massive and Basal Sands. The first DST took place in Massive Sand, followed by the second in Basal Sand. The statement read that in both the DSTs, the well produced “significant quantities” of hydrocarbons. This resulted in a combined production potential of 22.5 MMSCFD gas and 690 barrels of condensate per day (BCD) at 32/64” choke.

The company described the latest discovery of gas condensate as a valuable addition to the country’s energy sector. It helps to overcome the energy crisis. “This discovery from the Lower Goru Formation (Massive and Basal Sands) marks another success in the Bitrism Exploration License. It will contribute to reducing the gap between energy supply and demand through the use of indigenous resources. Furthermore, it will add to the hydrocarbon reserves base of OGDCL and of the country.”
The discovery boosts Pakistan’s gas reserves by 5% (OGDCL, 2025). It addresses approximately 30% of the country’s energy shortfall (NEPRA, 2025). With 65% of Pakistan’s energy needs met by domestic sources (SBP, 2025), this finding enhances economic stability. Moreover, it reduces reliance on imports, which is critical for a nation facing rising energy demands.
OGDCL’s gas condensate discovery in Khairpur on October 1, 2025, enhances Pakistan’s energy security with 22.5 MMSCFD gas output. As domestic resources grow, the impact becomes more profound. Stay tuned for updates on Pakistan’s energy sector.
