A New Zealand DJ sparked controversy among Pakistan cricket fans by playing ex-WWE star Paul Wight’s ‘The Big Show’ theme song as Azam Khan approached the crease in the third T20 International at Dunedin’s University Oval.
The tune, ‘Crank It Up’ by Brand New Sin, played while Azam Khan batted in the 11th over, leading to accusations of body-shaming by Pakistan supporters.
In the match, Finn Allen’s record-breaking 137 off 62 balls, featuring 16 sixes, propelled New Zealand to a decisive 224-7. Pakistan responded with 179-7, despite Babar Azam’s 58. New Zealand’s victory secured a 3-0 series lead.
Allen’s aggressive play targeted Pakistan’s bowlers, notably Haris Rauf. Rauf conceded 60 runs off two overs.
Despite Babar Azam’s efforts, New Zealand’s tight bowling, led by Tim Southee’s 2-29, kept their lead safe. Allen, the Player of the Match, emphasized team success over personal milestones.
This series marks Pakistan’s first under new T20 captain Shaheen Afridi, building up to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The remaining matches are set for Christchurch.
