North West may be Kim Kardashian’s daughter, but her fashion inspiration increasingly mirrors the fearless style of her father, Kanye West.
The 12-year-old made headlines on Christmas Day after debuting striking diamond “shark” grillz on her newly launched Instagram account. The custom mouthpiece, a form of high-end teeth jewellery, reflects a trend long associated with her father’s iconic image.
In a short video shared on her Instagram Stories, the camera zoomed in on the grillz, which were fully encrusted with diamonds. Each tooth featured a pointed finish, giving the piece its shark-inspired look. The grillz were designed by celebrity jeweller Johnny Dang and his team.
Although the reveal appeared spontaneous, the piece had been in development for weeks. Kardashian previously shared a photo of herself with Dang at her home, hinting at a collaboration. The jeweller has also created grillz for stars such as Travis Scott, the former partner of Kylie Jenner.
North’s bold fashion choices have drawn mixed reactions online. Some fans praised her confidence, while others questioned the appropriateness of such accessories for a child in the public eye.
Kardashian has addressed similar criticism before. Speaking on the Call Her Daddy podcast, she acknowledged the challenges children face when expressing themselves under constant public scrutiny. She noted that growing up in the spotlight makes even ordinary fashion decisions feel amplified.
Despite the debate, North continues to explore her style on her own terms, blending youthful creativity with the influence of two of pop culture’s most recognisable figures.
