Nooh Dastgir Butt set a historic record for Pakistan by securing seven gold medals at the Commonwealth Powerlifting Championship held in Sun City, South Africa.
Last week, Nooh made history in the classic powerlifting event with a total lift of 860 kg, overshadowing competitors from Sri Lanka and Wales. He continued his exceptional performance in the equipped powerlifting event, lifting 850 kg in the +120kg category, including a 300 kg deadlift, a 340 kg squat, and a 210 kg bench press.
The event, as reported by the Pakistan Powerlifting Federation, lasted from October 4 to October 13. Returning to international competition after a significant break, Nooh defied the Pakistan Weightlifting Federation’s skepticism, which had previously hindered his preparation for the Paris Olympics.

In 2022, he won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games and set new records in Birmingham. Despite facing internal conflicts within the federation and a major doping scandal, Nooh’s recent wins in powerlifting have reaffirmed his exceptional capability to represent Pakistan on the global stage. In addition to his gold medals, he also earned a bronze medal in Sun City.
